undergraduate & postgraduate education

The University’s four Schools – Science, Engineering, Business and Management, and Humanities and Social Science, together with the Interdisciplinary Programs Office provide both undergraduate and postgraduate education.  The medium of instruction is English. The chart below shows the enrollment of undergraduate and postgraduate students as of September 2020.

 

Undergraduate Studies

  • The Dean of Students’ Office is responsible for providing leadership and coordination for University-wide programs and initiatives for undergraduate students including student recruitment and admissions, student affairs and activities, credit-bearing co-curriculum activities, Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP) Program, scholarship, internationalization and undergraduate curriculum development. It works closely with academic units, faculty and students to create a vibrant and broadening learning environment to nurture responsible citizens and professionals.

  • The 4-year undergraduate curriculum is designed with a Common Core Curriculum, which forms an integral component of the undergraduate program and plays a key role in students’ whole person development to fill in the gaps left by academic pursuits in highly specialized disciplines and address the need for open and broad-minded generalists. Postgraduate Studies

  • The HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School (FYTGS) is responsible for the entire administrative scope for postgraduate (PG) education at both Clear Water Bay and Guangzhou campuses.  This includes coordinating student recruitment and admission, as well as providing all-round oversight on PG students’ qualifications, graduation, and any other areas related to PG affairs.

  • Postgraduate programs are offered in the form of research programs (Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy) and taught programs (leading to the award of Doctorate degree in Business Administration (DBA), Executive Master's degree in Business Administration (EMBA), Master's degrees in Business Administration (MBA), Arts (MA), Science (MSc), Public Management (MPM), Public Policy (MPP) or a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)).
